International Senior Tax Associate

Doeren Mayhew is seeking a proactive entrepreneurial Senior Associate to join the International Services Group in the Troy, Michigan office. Our Associates work on multiple team engagements in a variety of industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare/Review U.S. individual and business tax filings and supporting workpapers with cross border implications, including those of high-net-worth individuals.
  • Identify/prepare U.S. filing requirements for U.S. taxpayers with ownership interests in foreign corporations, partnerships, trusts and international filing and disclosure forms including: 1120-F, 5472, 5471, 8858, 8865, 3520/3520A, 8938, and FinCEN 114
  • Prepare/Review global compensation reports and tax equalization calculations.
  • Assist with day-to-day international assignment program management and provide support to clients.
  • Liaise foreign office communication.
  • Research technical tax issues.
  • Assist with integrated cross-border tax strategies focused on outbound and inbound structuring, tax planning, and tax minimization.
  • Prepare foreign tax credit calculations.
  • Prepare accounting reports for income taxes.
  • Assist with foreign assignment planning.
  • Ability to train new employees on firm technology, processes and procedures

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • MST and/or CPA preferred
  • 3+ years of individual or expatriate/foreign nationals tax compliance experience
  • Understanding of disclosures required of individuals owning foreign assets as well as calculations for Subpart F/GILTI a plus.
  • Understanding of taxability and reporting for Individuals relating to ownership of flow-thru entities and investment accounts with varying degrees of complexity.
  • Foreign language skills a plus
  • Understanding or working experience with payroll
  • Experience with international assignment programs and the assignees
  • Self-starter who is able to work in a team, collaborative environment and drive a project to completion
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to train interns and associates
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Adobe, Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
