Retirement Plan Specialist

Doeren Mayhew is hiring a Retirement Plan Specialist to join our Grand Rapids, MI office specializing in retirement plan administration, implementations & conversions as well as plan document preparation. The person in this hybrid role with be responsible for administering a small book of retirement plans, as well as coordinating with outside advisors, recordkeeping platforms and clients on plan implementations and conversions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer small book of 15 – 25 retirement plans. Preparation of valuation reports, performing nondiscrimination testing, calculation of employer contributions, processing loans and distributions, reconciliation of plan activity, trust accounting, and vesting calculations.
  • Prepare annual governmental filings including Form 5500, 8955 and 5330.
  • Communicate with clients and their representatives regarding annual administration, testing, corrections, and related issues via phone and email.
  • Prepare adoption agreements, Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD), board resolutions and other documentation. Coordinate execution of plan documents as required.
  • Coordinate set up and conversion of new and existing retirement plans. Facilitate periodic meetings with clients and advisors regarding the transition timeline.
  • Consult with client, prior recordkeeper and TPA, if applicable, to ensure accurate and complete information obtained. Facilitate the transfer of plan assets and reconciliation of assets to participant accounts.
  • Provide backup to supervisor and team members as needed.
  • Proactively suggest changes in procedures, forms, and checklists to reduce errors and improve efficiencies.
  • May manage special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum three years of retirement plan industry experience required
  • Hands on experience with retirement plan recordkeeping systems (e.g. Relius) preferred
  • Work independently with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Adobe PDFs
  • Possess strong time management and organizational skills
  • Possess good interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize with a high level of commitment to accuracy and detail.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage a high volume of concurrent projects
  • Maintain accurate understanding of how our internal processes interact together, at both team and organization levels
  • Available to work extra hours during busy season
