Controller, Outsourced Accounting Group (Remote)

Our Outsourced Accounting Group provides accounting services to an array of private clients, including those in the construction, retail, service providers, not-for-profit sectors, and more.

Doeren Mayhew’s Outsourced Accounting Group continues to grow, and we are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will focus on review tasks, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting for our clients. This role involves managing client engagements, leading monthly reviews, and driving efficiency improvements through procedural changes and technology.

This full-time role will be fully remote.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engagement Management: Ensure timely completion of work and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Client Interaction: Lead monthly reviews with assigned clients.
  • Efficiency Improvements: Recommend procedural changes, process improvements, and leverage technology and automation.
  • Month-End Completion: Oversee month-end processes and prepare projections/forecasts.
  • Sales and Client Onboarding: Participate in client discovery and proposal processes; lead onboarding from an accounting perspective, including coordination with technical teams for software setup and implementation.
  • Team Management: Manage and mentor Accounting Specialists and Managers.
  • Client Load: Typically manage 10-15 clients, depending on complexity of the engagement and workload.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting.
  • Experience: 15-20 years of accounting experience in the public or private sector. Family Office and/or Construction industry is strongly preferred.
  • Sales & Onboarding: Prior experience in client discovery, proposal development, and leading onboarding processes from an accounting or advisory perspective.
  • Certifications: Active CPA license preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Bill.com, and Expensify preferred.
  • Competencies: Attention to detail, client service, integrity, leadership, people development, productivity, and technical knowledge.
